off Screen

Your computer doesn't know when to stop. Offscreen does.

A small free app that nudges you to rest your eyes, drink water and move, counting only the time you're actually at the machine.

That's the real app code, not a video. Go on, press a button.

It counts screen time, not the clock.

Go to lunch and it stops counting. Water is the exception, because meetings dehydrate you too.

Every nudge is a different drawing.

The characters are shuffled like cards, so your eye never learns to skip them. Add a few too.

It knows one number.

Seconds since you last touched the keyboard or mouse. It sends nothing, anywhere, and is about as nosy as a .

Installing Offscreen

Your computer will warn you the first time. It's free, so I haven't paid Apple or Microsoft to vouch for it. That's all the warning means.

  1. Open Offscreen-mac.dmg and drag Offscreen into Applications.
  2. Open it. macOS says it "could not verify" Offscreen. Click Done.
  3. Open System Settings, then Privacy & Security. Scroll down and click Open Anyway. Confirm with your password or Touch ID.
  4. That's it. It lives in your menu bar and starts itself at login.
Comfortable with Terminal?

Skip steps 2 and 3. After dragging it into Applications, run this once:

xattr -dr com.apple.quarantine /Applications/Offscreen.app

On Windows?

Is it really free?
Yes. No trial, no account, no email address.
Uninstalling
Mac: quit it from the menu bar and drag it to the Bin. Windows: Settings, Apps, Offscreen, Uninstall.
